Great Video on Parisian Style

Pack & Dress like a Parisian

courtesy of: www.americinparis.com
This is a great article on dressing in Paris: Six Ways to Dress like a Parisian

Paris is known as the fashion capital of the world. Where it is common to walk into the store in the midwest, seeing someone in their pajama bottoms and house shoes, it is an absolute "What Not To Do" in Paris. So, packing for this trip takes some serious thought!

Myself being the worrier that I am, I am strongly advising my travel companions to pack in a carry on. I have this extreme fear of arriving at the airport to no luggage! Which means that everything needs to fit nicely in a 9x14x22 inch bag. For me I think there will be no problem. For the "Shoe Queen" (aka Amy) I think it may poise a challenge.

What am I packing:
1- pair of dark jeans
2- pairs of dark slacks
5- Shirts (2- Button downs, 2-Long Sleeve, 1- Short Sleeve)
1- Sweater
2- Camisoles
1- Jacket
2- Scarfs (I have every intention of purchasing a couple while there!)
2- Pairs of Shoes (No Tennis Shoes! Comfortable but stylish flats or long boots w/o heal)
7- Pairs of socks
7- Panties
2- Pajama Bottoms
2- Night shirts

Make up & Travel Size Sundry items (Deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.)
(All of the above items will be tossed and not coming back to USA with me & when we arrive we will run to Monoprix (French Target) to get shampoo, hairspray, etc. to share for the week.)
1-Flat iron (hair dryer will be provided at apartment)
1- Reusable shopping Bag
1- Umbrella
1-Pillow Case
1- Shoulder bag (purse) zipper to use while in Paris

Computer Charger
Charger for ipod & phone that connects to computer
Electrical Conversion Thingy :)
Extra Camera Battery
Small Amount of dry laundry detergent & 3 fabric softener sheets
Extra Luggage Tag
Sinus & Allergy medication & Tylenol & Unisom
Trial Size Toilet Paper

What am I wearing on the flight?
(The reason I am noting this is because we have a washer & dryer in our apartment. So, this will be clothing for another day in Paris!)
Dark Jeans, Stylish Flats, Plain Dark Shirt, Jacket, Necklace, Bracelet, Earrings

What am I taking in my purse on flight?
Laptop, i-pod, cellphone, ear-buds, camera, passport, 2-credit/debit cards, $50, €200, Museum Passes, Reservations & itinerary, Map & directions, copy of passport, lip gloss, gum, hand-sanitzer spray, sunglasses, apartment keys

Copies of Critical Information
I will also scan & e-mail to myself copies of passports & credit/debit cards. In case anything is lost or stolen copies of everything will be online and easy to obtain.

For the flight Home:
I plan on purchasing a cheap duffel bag or suitcase in Paris. When we return we will check this bag with some of my clothes and use the carry on to put in purchases made in Paris.

I may add to this list but for the most part this is our list!

Preparing for Paris: Our Apartment

Last June I approached my bestfriend, Lyndsey, and my sister, Amy, with the proposal of let's go to Paris! I was fully expecting for them to decline my request, to my surprise they said, "Let's Go!" So, the plans started being made and here we are 98 days away from our departure. Although we have changed plans slightly by reducing our trip from 14 days to 8 days. I am fully excited and prepared for this journey.

I had done some preliminary research before making the proposal and found an excellent apartment in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. I used a very helpful site www.homeaway.com. The owner of the apartment has been very accommodating with all of my request and answering all my questions. The apartment is located in the heart of all the action on Rue Saint Andre des Arts a short walk from the metro and the Seine River. The building is a magnificent structure from the 18th century.

The intentions for this blog is to journal our adventure in Paris. To create a memory log for each of us to comeback to and reflect on our trip together. I have been working on our itinerary for months now and it is almost complete. I hope once Lyndsey and Amy preview it they will be excited for the rich culture and history we are about to witness.
